Real audio. Same script.

One phone menu. Before and after conversion.

Robert Steiner reads a fictional service menu in English. Both players contain the same script: the original MP3, then the WAV converted from it. This demonstrates the format change, not a simulated phone call.

“Welcome to Northline Services. For questions about an order, please press one. For technical support, press two. For all other enquiries, press zero.”

Original MP3

0:00 / 0:08

The original recording used for the conversion. Keep your best source for future versions.

Use the sample only with a matching test menu. For your own announcement, replace the business name and options. Converting MP3 to WAV cannot restore detail lost in the source.

After the download

Import the file. Check the whole call.

  1. Choose the right destination.

A menu greeting belongs to the digital receptionist; a queue introduction belongs to the call queue. Open the relevant area in your 3CX administration. Labels and available controls depend on the version and your permissions.

  2. Upload and assign the WAV.

Select the downloaded PCM WAV in the announcement field, save its assignment and check the number, destination and schedule. Creating an audio file does not configure keypad choices, a queue or voicemail.

  3. Test from another phone number.

Listen to the whole announcement. For a menu, try the spoken keys as well as invalid and missing input. For a queue, test repeats and the ending. For a holiday message, test the start and end of the closure.

For system music on hold, 3CX documents a 10 MB limit per file. Your import limit can be lower than the converter limit.

When the result is not what you expected

Three checks that help.

The WAV file is rejected.

A WAV extension does not identify the encoding. Export it here as linear PCM with 16-bit samples, 8 kHz and one channel. A-law WAV, stereo and 44.1 kHz are different outputs.

The upload works, but the wrong greeting plays.

Check the active call destination, weekly schedule and temporary exceptions. A successful upload does not confirm which call flow is active for that number.

The recording sounds narrower or too quiet.

An 8 kHz file has less audio bandwidth than a studio recording. Conversion does not remove noise or repair clipping. Start with a good source and adjust the level only after listening.

Questions about converting audio for 3CX.

What audio format does 3CX need for prompts?

3CX documents PCM WAV with an 8 kHz sample rate, 16-bit samples and one channel (mono) for system prompts. This page fixes that output format for you. Also check the requirements of the specific feature and version you are importing into.

Can I convert MP3 to WAV for 3CX?

Yes. Choose your MP3 and start conversion. Download the resulting WAV and assign it in 3CX. Other supported inputs, such as M4A and FLAC, can also be converted. Renaming a file extension does not convert its audio.

Is this 3CX audio converter free?

Yes. Convert existing files, preview and download them for free without an account. To create a new AI greeting from text, use the generator separately: the preview is free and a finished single announcement starts at €49 net.

What are the file limits?

The converter accepts up to five files, each up to 50 MB and 15 minutes, with a combined limit of 100 MB. These are converter limits. For music in the 3CX system settings, the manufacturer also specifies a 10 MB limit per file; check the limit at your particular import destination.

What happens to my recording?

Processing runs on converter.wolkano.io. Unused uploads are deleted after five minutes. Used originals are deleted when their associated jobs finish, no later than 30 minutes after upload. Results remain available for 30 minutes. Use “Delete files now” to remove them earlier.

Does the converter configure my 3CX phone system?

No. This independent phon.ist tool creates the audio file. You import it into 3CX and configure keys, schedules, routing and message recording there. The WAV test file contains a sample menu; its spoken keys must match your configuration.
